Hammock Beach Resort – The Hidden Gem of Florida

I have been visiting Florida’s golf resorts and writing about them for almost 20 years. From Fernandina to Miami on the East Coast and Naples to Pensacola on the Gulf Coast, the Sunshine State has an abundance of great places to stay and play. Recently I had the opportunity to visit Flagler County between Historic St. Augustine and Daytona Beach to stay at the magnificent oceanfront Hammock Beach Resort in the town of Palm Coast. Hammock Beach Resort, a AAA Four Diamond Resort, is truly Florida’s Luxury Oceanfront Destination. Who knew? This hidden gem is tucked away behind the windblown vegetation along Highway A1A in a secluded location. When you arrive you are treated to posh accommodations, great food, spectacular golf and excellent personal service.

Hammock Beach Resort is designed for gatherings of friends and families with a variety of accommodations to suit your specific needs. From one to four bedrooms suites and villas ranging from 700 to 2350 square feet, as well as rooms in the newly remodeled oceanfront Lodge, you will enjoy comfortable, spacious and beautifully appointed lodging. Unlike a typical hotel, their multi-room options allow guests to experience resort style living while still enjoying the comforts of home. Our premium one bedroom suite had a king-size bedroom with an adjoining sitting area, a kitchenette and an open-air balcony overlooking the Fantasy water park, the activity lawn, the 18th fairway of the Ocean golf course, and the cinnamon tinted sand beach along the Atlantic Ocean. You can either valet or self-park in the underground parking, which allows for a cooler car and not having to brave the elements while getting your vehicle.

Prior to arriving, my wife made an appointment for a massage at The Spa at Hammock Beach, a 10,000 square foot serene seaside facility of indoor and outdoor wellness with 11 exquisitely appointed treatment rooms. The full service Spa can accommodate your preferences with a full menu of facials, massages, body scrubs and polishes. The salon has estheticians for manicures and pedicures.  The highly trained staff of therapists will make sure your selected treatment will enrich your day and stay at the Resort. Now through September the Spa has a Beach Ready Bora Bora Polish along with a complimentary South Seas Spray Tan available, leaving your skin glowing and feeling silky smooth. For more information call 386-246-5580.

Upon arrival you are greeted by the friendly and accommodating Bellmen. These knowledgeable gentlemen can help with your luggage, valet your vehicle, escort you around the property, direct you to all the activity areas and just make your time at Hammock Beach Resort even more memorable. I was thoroughly impressed.

The expansive lobby at the Resort is very welcoming with a gift shop, lobby bar, concierge check in and plenty of comfortable furnishings just to sit and read or relax. With over 50,000 square feet of event space including private beach front locations, a 5,200 square foot spectacularly designed ballroom and a plethora of activities to enjoy, Hammock Beach Resort is the ideal location for a company outing, wedding or convention in the perfect environment.

No matter whether you are young or old, there are activities to engage any age. The 91,000 square foot water pavilion is the focal point of the Resort with a water slide, lazy river and pools for families with children, adult only pool and an indoor pool. There is volleyball, tennis, a putting green, bicycle and hiking trails. For children ages 4-12 the Kids Crew is organized activities by Resort personnel during the day so parents can spend time on their own. They didn’t forget about the teenagers. The Kids Crew can plan for them as well. Don’t forget the Ocean for sunbathing, walks along the shoreline or catch a wave with a surfing lesson. The Marina has over a 100 slips for those traveling by boat on the intracoastal waterway and ocean, or for those who want to bring their boat for some great fishing. You can contact the Harbormaster at 386-597-5030 or email  [email protected].

You can spend a whole week at the Resort and never eat at the same restaurant twice. The Lobby Bar has hand crafted signature cocktails, fine wines and a limited sushi menu. In the morning it doubles as a gourmet coffee shop with expresso, fine teas, snacks and pastries. The Ocean Bar & Lounge is located at the Fantasy pool complex and welcomes sun-bathers with light fare, and wait service throughout the pool area. Delfino’s features regional Italian recipes with fine wines and Black Angus steaks from the Butchers Block. Loggerheads is Hammock Beach’s well-appointed Gastropub with billiards serving batch Bourbons and a limited menu. The intimate Sushi Bar is open on selected evenings, serving the finest grade fish. There is a Cigar bar with a walk-in humidor for those who enjoy a fine cigar with single malt whiskey and cognacs. At the Lodge, the Atlantic Grill is open for breakfast lunch and dinner. We enjoyed a fabulous dinner meal from the “Shore to Table” menu with its sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean and 18th hole on the Ocean course. The Terrace restaurant is located at the Conservatory, home of the Tom Watson links style golf course, the longest course in Florida. There was even a chef at the halfway house on the Ocean course.

Hammock Beach Resort is part of the Salamander Collection of Hotels and Resorts with outstanding service and accommodations from New Orleans to Virginia in seven locations.

Golf is second to none at Hammock Beach Resort. The Jack Nicklaus designed Signature Ocean course had just been totally regrassed from tee to green with Paspallum Platinum due to the ravages of Hurricane Matthew in 2016. The storm surge totally engulfed the golf course and damaged the irrigation system beyond repair. The result of the total restoration of all the bunkers and new turf is a golf course I consider to be the finest in Florida. No where else will you play a more spectacular layout than the Ocean course. With 6 holes bordering the Atlantic Ocean with vistas unparalleled anywhere on the East coast, it is truly the ‘Pebble Beach of the East.’ Golf Digest has chosen Hammock Beach Resort ‘The 2018 Best Resort in Florida’ and I concur. Who knew? Put Hammock Beach Resort on the top of your ‘bucket list’ and make it a point to get there. You won’t be disappointed. Visit HammockBeach.com
